"Dead Friends And Dead Heroes

I have a lot of dead friends. I miss them all and probably think about each one at least once a day. Ghosts are ok by me, I've walked with them throughout my life and sometimes they're all you have to keep you company.

I also have a lot of dead heroes. Some of them died in their sleep and some of them took a bullet in the back of the head. One of them had both of those things happen to him (his name was Fred Hampton, go read about him when you have a chance). Another one was named Joe Strummer. I met him once, and he gave me a nickname that I'll always treasure.

When I get down and feel like the fight for a better world is a hopeless one, I turn to the words and music of The Clash and it keeps me sane. I listened to 'Washington Bullets' this morning and it made me remember that we have to keep saying the names of the fallen ones, chant them as we walk towards our goals. Joe, when your voice shouted out of my speakers 'Remember Victor Jara!' I realized how much you gave all of us in your short time here, and I'm glad I got to say thank you."
